After more than 20 years, our court reporter is retiring. I think the thought of retiring everything from her office into her home is a bit overwhelming. Today, she offered me 2 boxes of empty cassette tape cases. My initial thought was to use them to mount a few cling stamps, but given the amount of cases, I decided to see what types of ideas were on Pinterest. I was pleasantly surprised to find a few recycled crafts using the cassette cases, but my favorite was the business card holder. I am a huge fan of taking something that’s no longer in use and using it for a totally different purpose. This was such a great idea that I had to make one of my own. Here’s what you need to get started:
- One empty cassette tape case
- Washi tape
- Other embellishments (optional) such as tassels, stickers, etc.
First, if your case has a paper insert, remove it and open it up . Next, wrap your washi tape around the top opening of the case. I chose to wrap mine all the way around and not just the front side.
Now, cut a strip of washi tape that measures the width of your case and place it on the bottom half of the opening.
If you wish to continue decorating with the washi tape, continue wrapping it around the case. Otherwise, you can add any type of embellishments to the case. For this one, I am using a cardstock tassel to dress it up. Finally, add your cards and voila!
This is a a super easy, super quick craft that you can make in a matter of minutes. If you don’t have any of the cases on hand, which let’s face it, most of us don’t, you can probably find them at thrift stores super cheap or order them from Amazon. If you have a few cassette tape cases on hand and want to make something else, head over to my Recycled Crafts Pinterest board for inspiration.
